BBN Butterfly Internet Gateway

This one appears to be quite rare, and perhaps it played a part in the ARPANET and/or early commercial Internet.  Looks to have been created in the 1980s.  More research is needed, we would like to know where it may have come from.  It was purchased by CTSI in 1997 from military surplus outlet in the Tidewater, VA area.  All that remains is the enclosure itself, none of the original electronics were included.  It is a rather typical 19″ rack although shorter, about 5′ tall with a permanent shelf installed towards the top.  I see one reference with a photo online to a unit installed at NASA Ames.  Links below:
